Learn Hindi on Your iPhone with WorldNomads Language App

iPhones have become such an important way of life for travelers, providing a lifeline to friends and family back home as well as security in knowing we can contact help locally when needed. Because my iPhone is never far from reach on the roads of India, I wanted to find a way to pack it with more useful travel related tools. A bit of searching landed me on a free Hindi language app download for an iPhone or iPod Touch.

It takes less than a minute to download the app which contains a 14 minute audio lesson (usable on any MP3 player) and more than 50 common useful phrases for tourists. Included with the audio clips are word spelling in English and Hindi. Now when you need help you can turn to your iPhone. Play the phrase instantly and repeat as often as needed. Or, if you feel you can’t say the words just press play for anyone to hear.

The counting in Hindi, Sanskrit and Punjabi respectively goes this way:

    One- Ek, Ekah, Ik
    Two- Do, Dwaoo, Do
    Three- Teen, Trayah, Tinn
    Four- Chaar, Chatwaarah, Chaar
    Five- Paanch, Panch, Panj
    Six- Chheh, Shat, Shey
    Seven- Saat, Sapt, Sat
    Eight- Aathh, Asht, Att
    Nine- Nau, Nav, No
    Ten- Das, Dash, Dass

    and so on….
These are the only four languages that I know, Punjabi being the least of these.
