Apparently yellow is so last season. The iconic Amby taxis of Kolkata will be stripped of their yellow color in favor of a white and blue scheme commonly seen in other parts of India. This color change is just one of many new measures issued by the West Bengal Transport Department. For 2012, the old way of doing business is out.
Among the list of proposed changes for operating taxis in the 3rd most populated city in India, taxi drivers will be required to wear clean uniforms, behave in an appropriate manner, and will not be allowed to refuse customers.
Taxis, apart from new paint, will have to use tamper-proof electronic meters with printers to stop manipulation of meters. Black smoke from improperly running taxis is also to be addressed.
Transport Minister Madan Mitra ruled out any immediate hike in fares of taxis.
