My travels in India take me from five star joints to off-the-beaten-path haunts where toilets can vary from golden thrones set in spacious cubicles to prickly thorns set amidst fields on the side of the highway. The availability of toilet paper can vary just as often. And if you’re like me, I find slight embarrassment in being caught carrying a roll of paper with me to the toilet. It’s like I’m a kid still wearing training diapers knowing I should have adopted the Indian way of washing years ago.
In the past I’d take a roll of TP, squish it in half, and shove it into my pant pocket. This caused any number of issues from looking like I had eaten one too many chipatis to looking like I was really excited to be heading to the toilet. Plus there was the inevitable piece of paper poking out of my pocket.
Then I stumbled on a new way of discreetly carrying toilet paper; tuck a travel size roll into your sock. This is especially handy for business travelers who wear fitted trousers with little to no space for bulky items. Spacious leg openings of most pants and jeans easily hide your treasured bathroom companion saving you from any embarrassment or disapproving eyes. Pockets are now free to be used for storing business cards, change and your wallet.
