Numbers reported from the National Dairy Development Board’s Annual Report show India remained the world’s largest milk producing nation for 2010-11. The country’s estimated milk production for 2010-11 is 121 million tonnes (266.7 billion lbs), close to 17 per cent of world milk production. Last year, the annual milk production stood at 112 million tonnes. World milk production increased to 710 million tonnes in 2010, an increase of 1.6 percent over previous year.

The National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) was founded in 1965 and is based in Anand, Gujarat. NDDB consists of more than 133,000 village dairy cooperatives, 177 milk unions, and 15 federations. India village dairy cooperatives boasts 13.9 million members.
