Rs 350 ($7.80). Yup, that’s all I paid for a night Durga Guest House, the best budget hotel in Mandi, Himachal Pradesh. All the basic services at this hotel of India were found: full time running water, hot water tank, shower & TV. The guest room even offered a small balcony with views of the city. Just off the lobby was an Indian restaurant with ample parking for guest and patrons.
The no frills hotel is roughly 2 km from the city center so be prepared to walk, as we did, or drive into town. Across the street you can find STD/ISD for calling home and a chai stall open at 4:30 A.M. Clearly a chai wallah who understands my tea needs.
Durga Guest House was an easy, no hassle budget hotel. Neat and clean rooms make for a comfortable stay during a cheap tour of India. As with any guest house, remember to bring your own towel and TP.
