Gulab jamun please! That’s usually what I ask for after my evening meal. These little balls of heaven (and fat) are served warm with just a little bit of syrup. Each Indian recipe varies between restaurants… sometimes you’ll find a nut inside the middle and other times you won’t.
Known as gjams by locals, this is a traditional Indian sweet to be tried by tourists at least once. Ordering this as an after dinner dessert can bring puzzled looks and even snickers in varying parts of the country. They’re really nothing more than common street food in India, yet available at nearly any Indian restaurant. A walk through any market will show tourists many shops with the already prepared balls soaking in sugary sweet goodness. Locals buy them for eating on the go or to heat up and serve at home.
Gulab jamun is delicious, which makes it hard limiting a portion to only two.
