A recent survey by travel website TripAdvisor determined three of the eight dirtiest hotels in India were located in Delhi. This list based on traveler reviews (and followed up by staff visits and videos to verify claims made by visitors) is compiled annually. To offer a rebuttal to the travelers who have found Delhi hotels to be the dirtiest in the country, here is my list of where to stay in New Delhi, India. These hotels in New Delhi are all: neat and clean, offer a plethora of services and amenities, conveniently located to sightseeing destinations and walkable to nearby points of interest. The Imperial: Pictures don’t capture how magnificent the Imperial Hotel in Delhi truly is. From the lush, impeccably maintained grounds surrounded by palm trees, green grass and perfectly sculpted hedges, to the immaculately cleaned building, the Imperial is a showcase for tourists of India. Travelers are whisked from their very late night arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport through truck, smog and dust filled streets into the oasis that the Imperial provides. The Claridges: Guests enter via a half circular drive to be greeted by a perfectly dressed stereotypical British Raj Indian doorman. From there they are swooped into the marble filled lobby where an efficient check-in process is completed. This is old world charm. Bright, airy passageways painted in light colors to deflect the natural sunlight beaming through floor to ceiling windows up front envelope newly arriving tourists in grand form. Rooms are accessed via the provided lift or by way of the over-sized spiral staircase which nearly takes your breath away. READ MORE…

Boutique

Amarya Villa: The French owners took what they describe as a city mansion, and transformed it into a home-away-from-home. Finding Amarya Villa can prove tricky if arriving after a late night touchdown into the airport. There is no sign nor placards pointing guests in the right direction. It takes good old fashioned street number reading to arrive at the nondescript building just inside the upscale Safdarjung Enclave. Any trepidations immediately vanish upon passing through the white picket fence gate. New arrivals are met with smiles and welcomes by any number of the friendly, well spoken staff. READ MORE…

B19: Inside the room there was a small seating area for meals or tea. Next to that was a small desk and TV. The bed was large and comfortable although very close to the ground. I didn’t mind this but it did take a bit of getting used to. It’s a great way to feel like the Indian Royals sleeping in their beds in the old palaces. The bathroom was very nicely finished in bright white and blue tiles, glass shower stall, full time running water with plenty of hot water. My favorite part was the French-door access to the balcony. Although not private, I never saw other guests outside enjoying the view. Because of this shared balcony, 2 other rooms have access, it’s best to keep the curtains closed for privacy. READ MORE…

Jukaso Inn: The room was small but clean, bed was comfortable. The toilet did not work properly as well as the A/C. I called regarding both issues, the A/C was going as well as it was going to. The bathroom was something I lived with for the night as the repairman sent was not able to give a quick fix. The wireless internet (WiFi) was either not working or I wasn’t able to access it on my Mac until the next morning when I was allowed to go upstairs into their office and connect via ethernet. Hotel Parkland: The hotel is situated just off one of the main drags but my room was positioned towards the back of the building so I never heard any road noise. There was some shuffling around 2 A.M., most likely from other foreign arrivals which is about the right time of night for them to appear. This property is located in the Defence Colony, a nice neighborhood with safe walking but a distance from the tourist landmarks. Stay here for a comfortable stay away from the crowds or transferring to another city the next day. READ MORE…

Budget

Cinnamon Stays: Easily my new favorite place to stay in Delhi, Cinnamon Stays is what a budget hotel in Delhi NCR should be. Clean, spacious and comfortable rooms can be found here as well as the needed amenities such as free WiFi, laundry and meal service. Located just off the bustling Gurgaon-Delhi Highway in far Southwestern Delhi, consider this a place for long term stays or travelers on a budget. READ MORE…
