Quietly building it’s presence in India, Wipro evolved into a IT behemoth within it’s home country and beyond. In addition to the IT business, Wipro also has a leadership position in niche market segments of consumer products and lighting solutions. Founded in 1945 as a vegetable oil trading company, the technology division didn’t come about until 1980. Today, Wipro employs more than 100,000 associates from more than 70 nationalities and operates 72 plus global delivery centers in 55 countries.

Domestically Wipro plays second fiddle to Infosys within the IT market. But unlike Infosys, the company has additionally developed a business revenue model outside the world of consulting and IT allowing it to better adapt to changing economic climates.

Tourists traveling to Bengaluru may want to arrange a tour of the main campus, a highlight within the city that technology built.

Wipro trades domestically on the Mumbai Stock Exchange and National Stock Exchange. Internationally, Wipro trades on the NYSE under the ticker: WIT.
