Gay cinema fanatics have only a few days wait before Bangalore Queer Film Festival returns for a 4th edition on February 24 – 26. For three days, BQFF 2012 will screen 59 films at the Alliance Francaise. Organizers are hoping to build on the strength of last year’s success when films screened to a packed hall. This year’s event will have a transgender focus.
“Besides film screenings, we also have performances, a photo exhibition and a flea market at the venue,” organizing committee member Nitya Vasudevan told Indian newspaper, Deccan Chronicle.
Bangalore Queer Film Festival 2012 is organized by Good As You (GAY), Swabhava Trust, We’re Here and Queer (WHAQ!) and Pirat Dykes. Good as You is a Bangalore based Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) support group established in 1994. Swabhava Trust is an NGO which works with LGBT issues, specifically hosting a telephone helpline that provides conselling for LGBT people. This service, called Sahaya, has been operating since 2000. Swabhava also works extensively in HIV and AIDS efforts in and out of Karnataka state. We’re Here and Queer (WHaQ!) is a queer women’s support group established in 2009. All the groups rely solely on donations to maintain operations.
