Chandigarh is poised once again to showcase it’s illustrious Rose Garden when the annual Chandigarh Rose Festival kicks off on Friday, 20 February, 2015. More than 300,000 visitors are expected to make their way to India’s greenest city, far in the northern expanse of the country, for a glimpse at some of the most colorful, and fragrant roses. The garden has more than 50,000 rose plants and bushes. MC commissioner Vivek Partap Singh said around 829 varieties of roses, including hybrid teas, floribunda, polyanthus, miniatures and climbers, will be displayed at Rose Garden, located in Sector 16.
The 2015 edition of the Chandigarh Rose Festival theme is “National integration”. Folk dance teams from different states, arranged by North Zone Cultural Centre, will perform on all three days from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Besides, a cultural evening from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm on the main stage of Rose Garden.
A group of artists from National Association for the Blind, Chandigarh, will perform the classical musical “Divine Eyes”, at 3:30 pm on February 21. Artists will include Professor Murlidhar Sony and Kumar Shibu among other performers.
“Hasya kavi sammelan” will be held on February 20. and musical evenings on February 21 and 22 – both from 5pm to 7pm.
Children would be crowned ‘Rose Prince’ and ‘Rose Princess’ and there will be a brass and pipe band contest, on the spot painting, rose quiz, folk dances, photography competition and kite flying.
Chandigarh Rose Garden has also referred to in more recent years as Festival of Gardens. The festival will be held for 3 days from 20 to 22 February, 2015, at Chandigarh Rose Garden in Sector 16.
